On this exciting trip you will experience everything from the white sand beaches of San Blas, the cloud forests around the Baru Volcano and the rainforest of Chagres National Park. This adventure will bring you in contact with the Ngobe-Bugle, Teribe, Emvera and Kuna Indians.
Day 1: You Arrive in Panama City
We will meet you at the gate at the airport to handle your luggage and take you to your hotel.
Day 2 & 3: Chiriqui-Ngobe-Bugle
Starting with a nice breakfast we will bring you to the airport where you will fly to David. We will meet you here and transfer you to the highlands. You will visit a coffee plantation that is largely worked by the Guaymi Indians. The woman still wear the traditional dress known as the Enagua, making them easily more distinguishable than the men if you understand what I mean. Then the next day you will visit this small community where you will be invited to cook a local dish known as Sancocho. The Guaymi are a quiet and shy people but the children are always posing for a picture! This is truly a wonderful cultural experience.
Day 4 & 5: Changiunola – Teribe
You will first go to El Silencio in Changuinola and see the many banana plantations before you climb in the dugout canoe and head up the teribe river. You will be headed toward Wekso which borders the La Amistad Biosphere Reserve. Here you will find lodging in one of the traditional bungalow style cabins. The cabins are rustic yet comfortable. The local woman will prepare traditional cuisine made from a variety of fresh and locally grown produce. On day 5 you will visit the Teribe Naso Community at La Amistad International Park.
Day 6 & 7: Bocas del Toro
You will be transferred to Almirante where you will board a boat to Isla Colon in Bocas del Toro. The islands of Boca del Toro run along side of the Caribbean coast of Panama from the Gulf of Mosquitos to the Costa Rican border. Fishing, banana's and tourism are the main stay of the economy in these tropical islands. We will take a boat to Bastimentos National Marine Park in the mid morning. After that the rest of the day is yours to do as you please.
Day 8: Panama
You will fly back to Panama City later on in the afternoon.
Day 9 & 10: San Blas-Kuna Yala
You'll be taken back to the airport at 5:00 AM and flown to San Blas. There is a 25 pound weight limit on the flight so be prepared to travel light. The view of the islands as you fly over the Atlantic is absolutely beautiful. After you arrive in San Blas you will be boarding a boat which will take you to the site. You should arrive at around 10 AM and will visit a nearby snorkeling hot spot for some island fun. When you finish your lunch we can move on and visit the Kuna Village and learn a bit about this ancient culture. You will have a bilingual guide to translate for you.
Day 11: Chagres National Park-Embera
Once you arrive at the park you will hop into a dugout canoe for an enjoyable ride to the Embera Village. The ride will fly by as the guide points out various interesting facts about the rainforest and other sites that you will pass by. Once you get to the Embera Indian Village you will immediately see what a unique and beautiful people the Embera are. The have preserved the customs, traditions and way of life since days of old. The Embera often surprise visitors with their abundant knowledge of all things botanical. You will be treated to Embera dancing and food and can even paint yourself as the Embera do with natural fruit dye. A world within a world, you will find yourself truly on vacation and a million miles from day to day life.
Day 12: Panama City
This is a tour of Panama City and it includes all of the major landmarks and notable sites. You begin with the Panama Canal, a modern marvel of engineering. You may even see some ships or vessels as they are transferred through the locks. After that you are free to explore the narrow streets of the commercial section of Panama City, which also includes plazas, hotels and restaurants. Finally the tour will wind down with a view of Panama Viejo (old Panama). A farewell dinner will be hosted later in the evening at Las Tinajas Restaurant.
Day 13: Departure
Head back to the international airport two full hours before your scheduled departure.
