Overview
In the Province of Los Santos in the district of Tonosi lies this wildlife refuge. The Lapidochelis Olivacea is the most common turtle to be found on the beach which spans 13 kilometers.
There are literally thousands of turtles that nestle on the beach every year. You will find a fisherman’s village that cares for the turtles each year when they come to shore. There are other sea birds and important species that are protected in this area.
How to Get From Panama City to Canas
You fly to Chitre and then travel by car to Canas at Tonosi. It takes about 2 hours to drive. Once you get to Canas you travel by boat to Canas Island. This is a short trip that takes only about 15 minutes. This is where the refuge is located.
What to do in Canas Island National Park
You can go hiking or diving during the day, as well as swimming and snorkeling but the main attraction of the Canas refuge is at night. At night, thousands of turtles come to the shore and it creates quite a site.

The closest town to the refuge is Tonosi. You can find a place to stay and restaurants. You can even rent a boat there.
