Overview
With a surface area of 13,226 hectares, the marine park is located in Almirante Bay in the Province of Bocas del Toro and in the Chiriqui Lagoon. This is a protected area which preserves both the wildlife and habitat of the beaches.
How to get to Bastimentos Marine National Park from Panama City
It’s best to fly from Panama City as it’s only an hour flight. You can make it by car if you want. To go by car you leave Panama City and take the Interamericana highway to the town of Chiriqui. From there you travel to Gualaca and that leads you to Chiriqui Grande in Bocas del Toro. From there to Colon Island you take the ferry for a two hour trip. Once you get to Bocas del Toro City you contact the ANAM for guides to the different attractions in the marine park.
What to do in Bastimentos Marine National Park
You can go snorkeling or swimming in the most beautiful water and white sands. You can go on a trip through one of the many canals that run through the mangroves or go site seeing for dolphins. There are huge amounts of turtles nestling on the beaches from spring to fall and it’s a must see for tourists.

At Colon Island you have access to many hotels, restaurants, taxis, guide services and all of the other amenities you may want. The restaurants specialize in Caribbean foods. The city of Bocas del Toro is a famous tourist destination where you can enjoy the beach, the forest, the Indian culture, handicraft and architecture.
